Guwahati: Mizoram BJP vice-president R. Vanramchhuanga resigned Thursday in protest towards what he referred to as the central authorities’s indifference in direction of the Christian group within the ongoing ethnic battle between the Kuki-Zomi tribals and the non-tribal Meiteis in neighbouring Manipur.

In his resignation letter, submitted to Mizoram BJP chief Vanlalhmuaka, Vanramchhuanga stated he was deeply harm by the “anti-Christian actions” in Manipur, stating that “357 Christian church buildings, pastor quarters and workplace buildings belonging to totally different church buildings have been, up to now, burnt to ashes by Meitei militants”.

ThePrint has accessed the letter.

Talking to ThePrint, he stated: “Probably the most irresponsible individuals behind this battle are Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Union Residence Minister Amit Shah. They failed to guard the victims, the Christians.”

“Shah had himself gone to (Manipur capital) Imphal and stayed for 3 days and two nights, however throughout his arrival, and even after he left, the burning and violence continues,” he added.

“The leaders of our nation haven’t stated something to sentence this violence or consolation and console the victims,” he stated. “They’ve been silent until now”.

“I by no means believed (this) earlier however now I’m satisfied the BJP is an anti-Christian celebration,” he added. “And it’s my ethical responsibility to depart the celebration in addition to my designation.”

In his letter, too, he stated, “I do imagine that huge demolition of Christian church buildings in Manipur was supported by the state and central authorities”. His resignation, he added, was a protest towards this “act of prison injustice”.

In keeping with the 2011 Census, Christians represent 41.29 p.c of the inhabitants of Manipur and make up 87 p.c of the inhabitants in Mizoram.

On the BJP’s prospects in poll-bound Mizoram, Vanramchhuanga, a church elder on the native Presbyterian Church, stated the Manipur battle would impression the state elections, slated for later this yr.

“If the violence had not occurred, the BJP would have gained not less than five-seven seats [out of 40] right here, however now it is not going to get even a single seat,” he advised ThePrint.
